What should you do with a patent that maps to nothing?

Decide, do not drift. If a legacy patent still blocks a competitor, keep it. If it protects a prototype nobody sells, let it lapse at the next maintenance fee or offer it for sale or licence. Unmapped patents are maintenance cost and a due-diligence question.
