Strategic Patent Coverage and Resource Allocation: Lightbringer and TrackPaw
As a startup, efficient resource allocation is critical. TrackPaw, a growing company in the field of laboratory animal management systems, recognized the importance of establishing a solid intellectual property (IP) strategy and securing patent protection to safeguard their innovations. To address these challenges, they turned to Lightbringer for guidance, helping them streamline the patent application process and optimize their use of resources.
Can you introduce yourself and tell us about TrackPaw?
TrackPaw Team: The idea behind TrackPaw came when Liza (co-founder and CEO) was working as a business developer and project leader in preclinical drug development. During this time, she identified a global need for significantly improved laboratory animal management systems. This led to the development of an automated digital animal tracking system, and the founding of TrackPaw Scientific. A year later, Erik joined as co-founder and CTO. Today, our team has grown to five members, and counting.
Current methods rely on manual, intermittent monitoring, which can lead to unforeseen study biases, delays, disrupted results, and the overuse of research animals. We aim to change this. Our vision is to become the gold standard in preclinical drug development. Through our tracking system, we can ensure high data quality in line with the 3Rs principle, reduce the number of research animals, and minimize the manual workload in preclinical laboratories.
What was the reason you got in touch with Lightbringer?
TrackPaw Team: We needed to file for a patent, and when we learned about Lightbringer, we immediately found it to be an elegant solution. It saves both time and money, while also making the process more predictable - these were key factors for us.
What specific challenges or problems did you need assistance with?
TrackPaw Team: We need to know how to make the best use of our limited resources. Thanks to the collaboration, we now feel confident that we have a strong IP foundation in place.
How did Lightbringer help you overcome these challenges?
TrackPaw Team: We got great help and guidance on how to build our IP Strategy. Ola Wassvik, Lightbringer’s co-founder, played a significant role in helping us navigate this complex field. It was invaluable to learn from an entrepreneur who has already built an IP-heavy company and gone through the fundraising process.
Moreover, Lightbringer acts as a perfect bridge between engineers and legal experts. It made things easier, and allowed us to file for a patent quickly and easily.
Can you share an experience with Lightbringer that stood out to TrackPaw
TrackPaw Team: The ability to take ideas further was a game-changer for us. You can explore an idea, create a draft within a few hours, and do so with no cost. This makes it possible to collect and explore ideas within a structured framework.
